Vintage 1920s Gemma China Crested Ware "Shoe" Miniature (Southend-on-Sea Crest)
£16.00
wonderfully nostalgic slice of classic British seaside history. This antique crested china miniature figurine is elegantly molded into a pointed, heeled clog-style shoe, featuring the highly detailed heraldic coat of arms for the iconic Essex coastal resort town of Southend-on-Sea, complete with its traditional mediaeval knight and monk supporters.
Produced for the British holiday souvenir market by the renowned Schmidt & Company under their specialized Gemma export stamp line. The underside of the sole bears the authentic interwar green shield-and-crown trademark underlined by the curved "Czecho-Slovakia" text print, dating its production to the 1920s. It weighs 26g, its measurements are 3.5cm width, 8.5cm length, and 3cm height. In excellent vintage condition, completely free of any chips, hairline cracks, or flea bites, which is highly unusual for these delicate, easily knocked pointed shoe toes and rims.
Miniature footwear is the absolute cornerstone of any vintage crested ware display. Having survived in flawless condition for roughly a century, this whimsical souvenir piece is a perfect addition for collectors of Essex local history, Gemma porcelain, or anyone building a collection of vintage holiday memorabilia. Collectible, Collector's item.
