Vintage 1970s signed Mdina Art Glass Vase - "Blue Summer" Sea & Sand, Maltese Glass
£78.00
For your consideration is a beautiful, authentic piece of vintage Maltese studio glass: a Mdina Art Glass "Squat" Bud Vase in the iconic "Blue Summer" (often referred to by collectors as "Sea & Sand") pattern.
Dating from the 1970s/1980s, this hand-blown piece perfectly captures the Mediterranean aesthetic popularized by legendary studio glassmaker Michael Harris. The vase features a vibrant turquoise-blue cased body, heavily infused with swirling ochre/golden sand dust speckles and subtle internal styling. It is finished with a beautifully flared rim and a heavily weighted, polished pontil base. The base features the authentic, hand-engraved "Mdina" script signature, confirming its heritage. Because each piece was entirely handmade, the swirling color patterns and internal textures are completely unique to this specific vase. It weighs 603g, its measurements are 9cm diameter at its middle, 7cm diameter at its top, 8cm diameter at its bottom, and 12cm height. In excellent condition, no chips, cracks, flea bites, or bruises to the body or rim. The glass remains beautifully clear with no internal clouding or sickness. (Please see photos for a close-up of the etched signature on the base).
A wonderful, cabinet-sized addition for any serious collector of Mid-Century Modern studio glass or Maltese art glass. Collectible, Collector's item.
