Vintage 1930's Art Deco Lawson Wood "Gran'pop Goes Through The Chair" Framed Masonic Postcard

£38.00

A beautifully preserved piece of 1930's comic illustration art featuring the internationally beloved character "Gran'pop" by famous British cartoonist Lawson Wood (1878–1957). This original vintage Valentine’s Series postcard (No. 3132) double-functions as a highly collectible piece of fraternal memorabilia. The artwork cleverly illustrates a classic Freemasonry pun: when a member is installed to lead a lodge, it is referred to as "going through the chair." Lawson Wood humorously literalizes the phrase, depicting a mischievous, naked Gran'pop getting a rigorous grooming session while physically stuck through a wooden chair. The piece has been professionally mounted and housed in a modern black frame, making it a ready-to-hang decorative statement for a home office, study, or Masonic lodge room. It weighs 344g, its measurements are 19.5cm by 24.5cm. In excellent vintage condition, the print is crisp and clean with bright colors, sharp text alignment,  and no visible fading, foxing, or creasing. Note: Housed in a sealed modern frame; the back of the card is unexamined. Collectible, Collector's item.
