It has a lovely, intricate design round the outside and is inlaid with Mother of Pearl. “Master Maori carver Tuti Tukaokao, who died in 2001, has left a significant cultural contribution to the Bay of Plenty art scene,” says Jackson. “Among other things, his magnificent waka, Te Awanui, is held under cover on The Strand in Tauranga, and used on ceremonial occasions.
